Concord, NH – New Hampshire Republican State Committee Chairman Stephen Stepanek released the following statement after Congressman Chris Pappas called for abolishing the Electoral College during NHPR's First Congressional District Debate:

“Chris Pappas’ comments today calling the Electoral College “antiquated” is an insult and attack on the voice of every Granite Stater,” said NHGOP Chairman Stephen Stepanek. “Without the Electoral College, Democrat hubs like New York and San Francisco would decide our Presidential elections - not people in states like New Hampshire. Unfortunately Chris Pappas has proven time and time again that he will put New York’s and California’s interests first while leaving New Hampshire behind.”

Senator Shaheen’s Refusal To Condemn Violence On Streets Undermines Peaceful Protests

Concord, NH – New Hampshire Republican State Committee Chairman Stephen Stepanek released the following statement today calling for Senator Jeanne Shaheen and New Hampshire Democrats to denounce the rioting and looting occurring as part of the protests happening across the country:

“Every American has the constitutional right to peacefully protest. However, Granite Staters know the difference between peaceful protests and violent riots and looting – which serves to harm innocent lives and inflict immeasurable property damage. Instead of maintaining her silence and thereby undermining the legitimacy of peaceful demonstrations, Senator Shaheen, Congressman Pappas, Congresswoman Kuster, and Joe Biden must condemn the rioters, looters, and members of Antifa destroying American cities. Their selfish actions will not be condoned and the fullest extent of the law must be enforced."

Calls for U.S. Senate to Swiftly Fill the Supreme Court Vacancy

Concord, NH – New Hampshire Republican State Committee Chairman Stephen Stepanek released the following statement today after President Trump nominated Judge Amy Coney Barrett to serve as our next Supreme Court Associate Justice:

“President Donald J. Trump has made an excellent choice in nominating Judge Amy Coney Barrett to fill the Supreme Court Vacancy. Her qualifications are beyond question and her commitment to our Constitution is clear. Now, Senators Jeanne Shaheen & Maggie Hassan along with the entire U.S. Senate must uphold their constitutional duty, as specified in Article 2, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution, to take up and vote on her nomination to the United States Supreme Court. As Senator Shaheen previously stated, ‘Without question, the American people expect us to do our jobs.’”

“Today, the President fulfilled his constitutional responsibility. Now it’s the Senate’s turn. Every Senator swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution and that oath applies to election years and nonelection years alike. Without question, the American people expect us to do our jobs. The Senate has a longstanding bipartisan tradition of giving fair consideration to Supreme Court nominees and I will continue to honor that tradition. I look forward to meeting Judge Garland in the near future, and reviewing his qualifications.” - Senator Shaheen, March of 2016
