Concord, NH - NHGOP Chairman Stephen Stepanek released the following statement following the Trump Administration granting a waiver requested by Governor Chris Sununu regarding our state's health insurance individual marketplace:

"Thanks to Governor Chris Sununu’s leadership and President Trump’s administration approving New Hampshire’s Section 1332 State Relief and Empowerment Waiver, New Hampshire’s individual health insurance market will see a 16% reduction and increased stability in 2021. This is just the latest example of Republican leadership delivering a big victory for the Granite State. Republicans are bringing critical new stability to our health insurance market after Democrat health care reforms enacted by Jeanne Shaheen and Joe Biden wrecked havoc on New Hampshire’s health insurance market."

As State Senator and Governor, Shaheen Was Criticized For A Bill That Introduced “Community Rating” To New Hampshire’s Health Insurance Market

Some Blamed The Exodus Of Insurance Providers From The Individual Market On The Law. During the early 1990s, more than two dozen companies provided insurance to small business. Today, only two companies write insurance for individuals and two carriers write 75 percent of the insurance for small groups. Some blame the exodus on a 1995 law - sponsored by Shaheen when she was a state senator” (Norma Love, “Governor Pans Small Business Insurance Bill, Backs Risk Pool For Individuals,” The Associated Press, 5/16/01)
